In the beginning, God put Adam in Her
shortest dress and tucked
the boy’s penis back between his legs.
The first sound was the rip
of duct tape which She used
to hold it back. Then She put him
in three pairs of tights so everything
down there was smooth.
She made up the boy’s face,
gluing back his big male eyebrows
with Elmer’s stick glue,
and recontouring his cheekbones
so they became a lady’s
cheekbones. She stuck long lashes
on those eyelids and painted
the nails purple and pink.
She gave that kittygirl a wig.
Put her in Her heels,
and told her never to wear
anything shorter than five inches.
Still the girl was looking pretty stiff,
pretty butch, which is not to say
not pretty, but she wanted
to turn a look like God’s,
so she had to learn how to walk,
how to talk, how to think like God
who does nothing but create
new things from Herself—
she stitched together
the loose fabric of the soul
and created a comely silhouette
which gave the illusion
